When it comes to food security, Haiti is far from secure. Haiti’s crops are able to feed only 50% of the population. Haiti ranks fifth in the world in terms of undernourished persons. In light of these realities it is important for families to farm small vegetable gardens to help meet their family’s daily food needs. In the fight against malnutrition this is where it starts. You can help us kickstart gardens to provide food for the mothers and children who will spend time at Second Mile Haiti. These very same gardens will also serve their agriculture training ground. As a part of the program mothers will learn techniques for growing and harvesting vegetables and other staples. With this hands-on approach, moms get to actually participate in growing the food that will nourish their children into full recovery! They will gain confidence in their ability to grow their own food when they return to their home communities. And, as if that wasn’t enough, the gardens contribute to our sustainability as an organization in Haiti. Win-win-win!
